In the heart of Southern France the Cévennes hills and the “garrigues” of the Gard department. Le Mas des Passerelles is in the tiny village of Bagard, 7 km from Anduze.

Right next door
Anduze is rightly famous for its wonderful and unique bamboo park (Bambouseraie) which has an enormous forest of immense bamboos through which you can wander, making an imaginative trip to Laos or Japan, without forgetting the astonishing greenhouse displays and exhibitions of famous Land Art artists programmed every summer.
The other main attraction is the Mialet Gardon, the river which flows directly down from the Cévennes hills and which offers many delicious bathing spots.
We are in the heart of a wine-producing area and the quality of the local wine is such that a visit to the caves (cellars) is a must. Further afield but still only 45 minutes away are the Pic Saint Loup and Bourdic labels (appellations).
Fresh seasonal produce, including vegetables, local fruit, pélardons (goat’s cheese), chestnuts or mushrooms can be bought from the colourful local markets at Anduze, Sommières and Uzès.
There is also a whole range of cultural festivals. We are particularly fond of Cratères Surfaces, the comic strip festival at Massillargues and the unpretentious but fun recycling event.

A little further afield
The sea is situated just over an hour away to the south (Grau du Roi, Camargue) and to the North you have the Cévennes National Park which was classified in 2011 as a UNESCO World Heritage site. In the north-east lies the Ardèche Gorges, the Tarn Gorges and “Le Circle de Navacelle” in the north-west and the Hérault Gorges in the south-west. All offer stunning scenery, canoeing, kayak, bathing and other water activities. This wealth of outdoor activities is complemented by the cultural sights of the towns of Uzes, Sommières, Nîmes, Montpellier, Arles and Avignon, not to mention the breath-taking world heritage site of Pont du Gard.

Wine Tasting
As we are co-organisers of various wine events (Les Vignes Réboussières), we know several local winemakers. One of our favourites belongs to our cousin, Jérôme, who has become a worldwide oenologist over the last two decades and who is now developing his own local wine, just as our family did for centuries. Other wonderful English speaking winemakers are also located nearby. We would be delighted to recommend a few to you.
